    Acer DAT Decompiler+Compiler (Updated 20090622)

Post  starkwong on Mon Jun 22, 2009 4:55 pm

This tool can be used to either decompile or compile ROMs for various Acer devices that are 2048 bytes sector size. Tested devices including X960, DX900, DX650.

    Thanks Harshal for testing.

While there are already tools elsewhere, why using this?
    1. No Java needed
    2. Single tool to extract and rebuild your ROM

    Usage:
    - Decompiling ROM
    1. x960datsplit temp.dat
    2. Several files and directories created. ExtROM directory contains all files inside the Extension ROM. The only file you need to work with is os.nb0 (Use osnbtool), other files just leave it as is.

    - Compiling ROM
    1. First rename the new os.nb0 to os-new.nb0, and prepare the ExtROM directory (If you didn't touch the directory, the tool will just regenerate the same ExtROM image), other files just leave as is.
    2. x960datsplit /b temp.dat
    3. out.dat generated. Move the file somewhere and rename is back to temp.dat, then you can try flashing with the file.

    - Note when building ROM
    1. It is important that you don't touch any files that you shouldn't touch, or you may get into deep trouble Smile

    2. This tool support building of big-storage ROM (i.e. Free storage space depends on your ROM size), so all ROM partitions will be reflashed (IPL, Knight, USBDL, etc).

    3. You may modify the content of ExtROM, however note that don't exceed the size as reported in /b, as ExtROM is not resizable.

Final Warning: Customizing a ROM always has risks, I won't be responsible for any damages lead to your custom ROM!

    Release Notes:
    v1.00
    - Initial Release

I dragged my temp.dat into this tool, it works about 5 second and close .

Try using the new version at http://www.studiokuma.com/tools/?section=misc-e

Another thing, try not to drag the file directly, always use Command Prompt to produce the exact result.
